Taiwan Visa Policy

There are different types of visas available for Taiwan. You will be required a visa even if you are transiting through Taiwan unless you are from a visa-exempt group.

You can realize your planned trip to Taiwan by obtaining a Taiwan visa. Foreign nationals can apply to Taiwan visas (Single, Multiple entries) e-Visa, via embassy, landing (on arrival) visa, and travel authorization certificate for temporary reasons (tourism, business, cultural, and other purposes).

The duration of stay in Taiwan can be 14 days, 30 days, 60 days, and 90 days. For a Transit visa, the duration of stay in Taiwan can’t exceed 14 days. There are 2 types of validity you can choose: for a short stay 1-180 days, for a long stay over 180 days.

There are 3 types of online application form:

3. e-Visa Application

Also, you can apply for Landing Visas and Travel Authorization Certificate.

Countries eligible for Landing (On Arrival) Visas:

• Holders of a Turkish passport valid for more than six months.
• Holders of emergency or temporary passports valid for more than six months for nationals of those countries (with the exception of the USA) eligible for visa-exempt entry.

Travel Authorization Certificate

Citizens of Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam may apply online for a R.O.C. (Taiwan) Travel Authorization Certificate from the National Immigration Agency, Ministry of the Interior.

Please note that e-Visa is only granted for Tourism and Business, also for Visiting Relatives and Attending International Conferences or Sporting Events in Taiwan. If you intend to travel to Taiwan for other purposes – such as Employment, Study, Family Residence, or Mandarin Language Courses – you must submit an application for an appropriate type of visa to the ROC overseas mission.

The validity of the e-Visa will be 3 months from the date of issue. The e-Visa is a single-entry visa, and the maximum duration of stay in Taiwan is 30 days, which cannot be extended and converted to other types of visas.

Where to Apply for Taiwan E-visa Application?

You will apply to Taiwan e-Visa online. You can apply for an e-Visa through this website.

You can also apply for Taiwan visas via the embassy/consulate.  Reasons to apply for this type of visa can be tourism, business trips, investment, investment inspection, attending conference/exhibition, foreign students, visiting family or friends, exchange programs, and many other non-permanent nuances. Visas can be both single-entry and multiple-entry.

Required Documents for Taiwan Visas Via Embassy/Consulate

1. Application Form 

• Fully completed in English and signed and dated by the applicant himself (signed by both parents in case of minors, below the age of 18)

2. Passport

• Validity minimum of six months beyond the date of your departure from Taiwan.
• Signed by bearer
• Passport not older than 10 years (issued in the last 10 years)
• At least one or two free “visa pages.”
• Undamaged pictures securely affixed with/to passport

3. Photo

• NEW! Should not be older than 6 months.
• A frontal view of the face-covering 70-80% (32-26mm) of the photo.
• A uniform and white background.
• Clear facial features and eyes – not covered by hair or glasses frame.
• 45mm x 35mm size

4. ID Card Copy

• Validity minimum of six months beyond the date of your departure from Taiwan.

5. Residence Permit/Visa Copy (if your country of residence and citizenship are different)

• Validity minimum of six months beyond the date of your departure from Taiwan.

6. Photocopies

• Copy of the main page of your passport
• Copies of previous visas
• Copy of visa for the final destination (if any)

7. Travel Itinerary 

• Flight reservations (return ticket must be included)
• Valid (existing) hotel/accommodation booking/reservation with the full address (name, street, city, zip code, contact information, booking ref.)

8. Proof of Sufficient Funds

• Your bank account balanced statement issued in the last 3 months with your name shown
• For a minor applicant, at least one of the parents’ (sponsor’s) balance statements should be provided. The fund balance should be sufficient for your stay in Taiwan for the period stated in your application form and travel itinerary

       For tourism:

• Flight reservations (return ticket)
• Proof of accommodation

       For visiting:

• Original invitation letter by inviting person
• Copies of passport, ID card/residence permit of your inviting person

       For visiting relatives:

• Original invitation letter by inviting person
• Proof of relative's residence in Taiwan
• Proof documents for relationship

       For business:

• Original invitation letter by the company/organization
• Evidence of business activities

       For attending conference /exhibition:

• Evidence of documents (Invitation Letter or proof of exhibition and applicant's ID)

       For the foreign student: (Full-time Ph.D., Master's Bachelor's program, or senior high school Students)

• The admission permit or record of enrolment, registration, and transcripts
• Highest education diploma and transcripts
• Proof of financial support
• The health certificate should be issued within 3 months by one of the local hospitals designated by the Centers for Disease Control of the Ministry of Health and Welfare of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) or a foreign hospital. Health certificates issued by foreign hospitals must be authenticated by a R.O.C. (Taiwan) overseas mission.
• Other supporting documents (if requested)

       For international student (exchange students):

• Letter of approval issued by university/college or competent authorities of education.
• Admission permit or record of enrolment and registration
• The overseas school’s record of enrolment
• Other supporting documents (if requested)

       For academic exchange (including visiting scholar):

• Academic exchange approval letter issued by a government agency

       For studying religious doctrine:

• Certificate of approval issued by competent authorities

       For studying Chinese:

• A certificate of admission issued by the Chinese language center affiliated to one of the universities or institutions accredited by the Ministry of Education. (original and photocopy) cate of approval issued by competent authorities

       For overseas Chinese students:

• The notice of assignment issued by the Ministry of Education or the University Entrance Committee.
• Highest education diploma and transcripts (Foreign diplomas and transcripts must be authenticated by a Taiwan overseas mission or an agency designated by the Overseas Community Affairs Council. For diplomas and transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English, a Chinese- or English-translation version is also required. The original-language diploma, transcripts, and accompanying Chinese- or English-translation must be authenticated by a Taiwan overseas mission or an agency designated by the Overseas Community Affairs Council.)
• The health certificate should be issued within 3 months by one of the local hospitals designated by the Centers for Disease Control of the Ministry of Health and Welfare of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) or a foreign hospital. Health certificates issued by foreign hospitals must be authenticated by a R.O.C. (Taiwan) overseas mission.
• Other supporting documents (if requested)

       For internship:

• Approval letter issued by a government agency (e.g., Permit issued by Ministry of the Interior; Ministry of Economic Affairs; Ministry of Health and Welfare)

       For attending training courses:

• Approval letter issued by a government agency (e.g., Permit issued by Ministry of Economic Affairs Ministry of Health and Welfare)

       For volunteer:

• Volunteer approval letter issued by a government agency

       For employment:

• Work permit issued by competent authorities of the central government of the R.O.C.(Taiwan)

       For employment-seeking

• Proof of meeting one of the following conditions：
  • Employment experience, with an average monthly that is not lower the amount, NT$47,971
  • Graduated within the past year from any of the world's top 500 universities as listed by the ROC Ministry of Education, and not yet employed
• Plan for seeking employment
• Proof of sufficient financial resources (at least NT$100,000 or its equivalent)
• Proof of health and full hospitalization insurance for the entire duration of stay in the ROC (Taiwan)
• Certificate of good conduct
• Other supporting documents (if requested)

       For religious work:

• The applicant's credentials
• The applicant's certificate in religious work
• Certificate of registration of the religious organization or corporation

       For medical treatment:

• Evidence of documents (diagnosis, the proposal of treatment from Taiwan Medical institutions, letter for visa application)
• Evidence of funds (Bank statement or payment plan consented by Taiwan Medical institutions)

       For invited by ROC (Taiwan) government:

• Invitation letter by ROC (Taiwan) government

       For transit: (no more than 14 days)

• An entry visa (if any) and an onward ticket to the intended country of destination

10. For Minors:

• Copy and English translation of either birth certificate/proof of adoption/custody decree if parents are divorced/death certificate of parent
• Letter of consent from parent/s or legal guardian/s, if traveling unaccompanied.

Processing Time for Taiwan Visa Via Embassy/Consulate

The average processing time for a Taiwan Visa is 2-10 working days. It depends on your visa application country.

Taiwan Visa Fees Via Embassy/Consulate

Taiwan Visa fees are 50-100 USD (it can vary depending on your country and nationality). Additionally, you may also need to pay other Administrative fees such as the Visa Application center fee, courier service fee, etc., depending on the country and location of your documents' submission.

Where to Apply for Taiwan Visa Via Embassy/Consulate?

You will apply for a Taiwan visa in Taiwan visa application centers, embassies, or consulates, whichever accepts visa applications in your country of residence. If there is none of them in your country, you need to apply to the nearest embassy or consulate to your location.
