For the duration of stay Slovakia visa falls into three categories:

• Short-stay (for stays up to 90 days)

The Schengen visa fee for citizens of Azerbaijan, Russia, and Armenia is currently 35 EUR. These three countries benefit from reduced visa costs under an agreement with the Schengen countries. In other countries, this amount is 80 EUR for people over 12 years old, 40 EUR for children 6-12 years old, and free for children under six years old.

In most cases, if you belong to one of the following categories, you are exempt from visa fees by providing relevant evidence:

• Close relatives of those legally living in the Schengen area (close relatives include spouse, children (including adopted), parents (or guardians), grandmothers, grandfathers, grandchildren);
• Pensioners;
• Members of official delegations, including permanent members of official delegations, participating in formal meetings, consultations, negotiations, and exchange programs, as well as events of intergovernmental organizations based on an official invitation;
• Pupils, students, graduate students, and pedagogical staff traveling with them for research and educational purposes within the framework of the official educational program;
• People with disabilities and accompanying persons if necessary;
• Participants of international sports events and persons accompanying them in connection with their professional activities;
• Official visits of journalists and technical staff.

Slovakia Tourism/Private Visit Visa

If your travel to Slovakia is for one of the following purposes, you are eligible to apply for this visa.

• Visitors of military and civil burial grounds
• Property owners in the Schengen area and their close relatives
• Tourists and other private visitors

Required Documents for Slovakia Tourism/Private Visit Visa

1. Application Form

• Typed or written by hand in block letters and neatly
• Signed personally by the applicant

        In case of minors:

• The application form shall be signed by a person exercising permanent or temporary parental authority or legal guardianship

2. Photo

• One passport photo not older than 6 months
• Size 3,5x4,5
• On the white background

3. Travel Document (Foreign Passport)

• Valid for at least three months after the intended date of (last) departure from the Schengen area
• Containing at least two blank pages
• Issued within the previous ten years

4. Old/Expired or Another Valid Foreign Passport

• If the applicant has previous Schengen visas in an already expired foreign passport, that passport must be submitted as well

5. National Identity Card and Resident Permit/Visa Copy (if your country of residence and citizenship are different)

• A copy of the documents must be presented along with other documents
• The required validity period for these documents is three months beyond the date of your travel to Slovakia

6. A Travel Medical Insurance Policy

• Policies should cover the entire validity period of the visa and all the planned days of stay
• The insurance validity region should cover all Schengen countries
• The insurance should cover a minimum of 30.000 EUR
• Policies should cover your costs in case of sudden illness or accident and/ or assistance on-site, including the costs of medical repatriation of the insured person to the place of permanent residency or the repatriation in case of death.

• Copy of the Birth Certificate
• Consent of the parental authority or legal guardian should be required only if the minor travels alone or only with one parent. Exceptions should be made to this if the single parent with whom the minor is to travel holds the parental authority alone (i.e., in cases where the other parent has deceased or been deprived of custody, e.g., a death certificate of the other parent or a court decree vesting custody exclusively in the parent who is signing the application would be requested).
• Copy of the valid Schengen visa of the parent(s) travelling with the minor for whom a visa is not applied at the same time with the parent(s).

• E.g., an invitation/sponsorship form from the host if staying with one; document from the establishment providing accommodation or any other appropriate document indicating the accommodation envisaged in accordance with the legislation of the Schengen Member State concerned, for example, voucher or confirmation of the payment for the hotel, issued by the Slovakian tourist organization
• If not available, an adequate written description of the planned journey

9. Proof of the Itinerary

• E.g., confirmation of the booking of an organized trip or any other appropriate document indicating the envisaged travel plans such as a reserved return ticket.

• Relevant national document (e.g., recent extract from the real estate register, copy of the purchase contract/deed of sale, etc.) proving that the applicant possesses the property in question.

• Proof of economic activity (e.g., extract from the trade/fiscal registry or certificate for individual business) or bank statement(s) covering at least three preceding months.

12. For Drivers (International Cargo and Passengers)

• The written request from the national association of carriers of your country or the national association of carriers of the Member State stating the purpose, duration, and frequency of trips.

13. For Members of Train, Refrigerator, and Locomotive Crews

• The written request from the competent railway company of your country or a competent railway company of the Member State stating the purpose, duration, and frequency of trips.

14. For Air Crews (If in Need of a Visa)

• Letter from the operating body

• A certificate or other document issued by a professional organization proving that the person is a qualified journalist
• Letter from his/her employer stating that the purpose of the journey is to carry out journalistic work

16. For Freelance Journalists

• Proof of journalistic activity (e.g., a press card or work contract)
• Proof of economic activity/financial means (e.g., an excerpt from the trade/fiscal registry, certificate for the individual business, bank statement(s) covering at least three preceding months)

9. For Pupils, Students, Post-graduate Students and Accompanying Teachers

• A letter of guarantee or certificate of enrolment or student card by the host university, academy, institute, college, or school or certificate of the courses to be attended. The letter of guarantee must be certified by a Slovakian administrative unit. A copy of the certified letter of guarantee with the seal of the administrative authority and the registration number clearly visible is sufficient.
• In case not included in the written request, a separate statement on sponsorship either from the sending or receiving party (or other proof of financial means).
• If parents are sponsors: sponsorship letter + proof of family tie + copy of the first page of the sponsor's internal passport + any proof of financial means of the sponsor in the original. Printouts of online bank statements need to be stamped and signed by the bank.
• Student card or copy of the certificate of enrolment issued by the educational institution.

10. Participants in International Sports Events and Accompanying Persons in Their Professional Capacity

• A written request (letter of guarantee) from the host organization (competent authority, national sports federation or national Olympic committee), including information on the role of the persons, which must be certified by the internal administrative authorities of the Republic of Slovakia – Upravna Enota. A copy of the letter of guarantee with the seal of the administrative authority and the registration number clearly visible is sufficient.
• In case not included in the written request, a separate statement on sponsorship either from the sending or receiving party (or other proof of financial means).
• If parents are sponsors:
  • Sponsorship letter
  • Proof of family tie 
  • Copy of the first page of the sponsor's internal passport

The EU Blue Card allows third-country nationals with a university degree to take up employment in Slovakia commensurate with their qualifications. Please note that potential Blue-Card holders need to earn a gross salary of 52.000 € or MINT profession (Mathematics / Informatics / Natural Sciences / Technology) require at least 40.560€ and shall have found a position in their field of study.
