If you wish to visit South Africa, you should be issued a proper visa type by diplomatic missions of South Africa.

South Africa visas are not issued at ports of entry, so you will be requested a visa by airline officials when you arrive. You are obliged to go back to your home country if you arrive without a visa.

There are three different types of visas for South Africa:

At the port of entry, officials determine whether you are allowed to enter South Africa and how long you can stay for that particular visit. International travelers are limited to the action or reason for which their visas were issued.

South Africa Tourist Visa

South Africa Tourist visa enables foreigners to travel to the Republic of South Africa before the visa is expired. It is advised not to make any settled and fixed travel plans earlier than the issuing of the visa.

The period of residence within the Republic of South Africa will be decided from the applicant’s date of confirmation to the Republic in accordance with any conditions that will show up on the visa. • Signed invitation letter. The letter must be issued not more than a month from the date of application. It must show the address and contact details of the host. If the host is a South African, a copy host’s passport or ID is required. If the host is not South African, then the host’s residence permit will be required.

8. Proof of Civil Status

• Proof of civil status includes marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, death certificate of spouse, etc. The translation must be certified at the Public Notary

9. Proof of Means of Subsistence

• Bank statement for the last 3 months
• Travelers’ cheques
• Cash
• Salary advances

     In the case of Sponsorship:

• Sponsorship letter
  • It must confirm the dates of travel, exact travel purpose, relationship, details about the applicant, and financial undertaking). The sponsor’s residential address and contacts details must be shown in the letter.

10. Proof of Professional Status

• For example, employment contract, certificate of employment, extract from the trade and companies’ register, school attendance certificate, proof of pension.

11. Travel Insurance

• Copy of the insurance policy or certification letter
• It must show that the insurance covers “WORLDWIDE” or include South Africa.

12. For Minors:

• Birth certificate or copy of the family book and travel authorization signed by the holder(s) of parental authority in the forms required under local law, along with a copy of his/her/their identity document (if the minor is not traveling with his/her parents or guardian)
• Letter of consent from parent/s or legal guardian/s, if traveling unaccompanied.

13. A Yellow-Fever Vaccination Certificate (if required)

11. Proof of Purpose of Visit

• The letter of invitation, documents proving the relationship, a document confirming the status of the inviting person in South Africa, documents about the address where the invitee will stay (payment for utilities, etc.) must be presented.

12. Police Clearance Certificate

• It is issued by the authority in which the applicant has resided at least 1 year after attaining 18 years old

13. Radiological Report

• Completed, signed form BI-806 by a registered radiologist who confirms the examination of the applicant and verifies that no signs of active pulmonary tuberculosis could be detected
• This is not a requirement for children under the age of 12 years or pregnant women.
• Applicants are compulsorily required to submit the radiological findings from their own radiologist
• It must not be older than 6 months at the time of submission

• Letter from a medical practitioner or medical institution which indicates the nature, reason, and importance of treatment, the duration of treatment, and particulars of the appointment/s made in South Africa
• Details about the person who is responsible for medical expenses should be indicated. Include full details of the person or institution responsible for the medical expenses and hospital fees. Evidence of medical cover should be submitted
• Recommendation letter from a doctor in the country where you are resident.
• An appointment letter from a public or private hospital in South Africa should be indicated

A Transit visa is a visa that is valid for a very short period. Depending on your nationality and destination country, you may need to have a transit visa to connect to a foreign airport or cross through a foreign country.

• Your passport must be valid for at least 1 month from the date of departure
• It also must have at least two blank pages.

• Bank statements for the last 3 months
• Stamped by the bank
• Personal bank accounts in order to support the application
• Evidence of stocks, investments, pension, bank assurances, etc. (if any)

5. Proof of Accommodation

• Hotel reservation
• Invitation letter from the host in South Africa. The letter should include:
  • Copy of ID of the inviter
  • Inviter’s contact details
• Confirmation of residence (lease agreement in good standing, house bill)

     In the case of residing in company accommodation, staff house, guest house, etc.:

• Copy of passport of the signatory in the South African invitation letter.
• Address (utility bills, Lease Contract, Invoice of Tax, etc.)

     In the case of staying with a family/relative/friend/colleague, the followings are required:

• Signed invitation letter. The letter must be issued not more than a month from the date of application. It must show the address and contact details of the host. If the host is a South African, a copy host’s passport or ID is required. If the host is not South African, then the host’s residence permit will be required.

• It must not be older than 6 months at the time of submission

10. Police Clearance Certificate

• It is issued by the authority in which the applicant has resided at least 1 year after attaining 18 years old

• Evidence of recognized medical insurance in South Africa must be presented
• Copy of insurance card
• Proof of confirmation should include the duration of insurance and evidence of payment
• Only an insurance application is not accepted.

• Within of enrollment with a proficient body, board or committee within the Republic

• Evidence of the applicant’s being the spouse of a citizen or permanent resident for at least 5 years
