Georgian visa is a permit of established form stamped inside the travel document of a foreigner or issued electronically (e-visa), which confirms his/her right to enter or/and stay in Georgia or transit the territory of Georgia.

To issue a Georgian visa, a foreigner can be invited to Georgia by a citizen of Georgia, a person having a residence permit in Georgia, a legal person registered in Georgia, Georgian ministry, the office of the state minister as well as diplomatic representation, consular office or an international organization accredited in Georgia. The invitation is an official document, including a written recommendation confirming the purpose of the foreigner’s visit to Georgia.

A foreign national that meets the requirements and conditions set forth for the issuance of a Georgian visa can be granted a single- or multiple-entry visa.

A single-entry Georgian short-term visa is granted according to the length of stay requested on the visa application form, but for a stay of no more than 30 days.

A multiple-entry short-term visa is issued for a duration of a maximum of five years. At the same time, the entry and the total length of stay of a foreign citizen shall not exceed 90 calendar days within the 180-day period. A multiple-entry short-term visa is issued to the foreigner who has been in Georgia at least once during the previous year and has grounds for applying for a short-term multi-entry visa.

Georgian long-term visa shall be issued with the right to multiple entries to the country, for the term of 90 calendar days, for a 1-year validity period, and for the term, the person will be staying in Georgia. A long-term visa for a 1-year validity period shall be issued only for D5 category immigration visas.

 

Georgian Visa has the Following Categories:

Georgia Short-term Visa

Depending on the purpose of your travel to Georgia, there are different categories of visas that will apply to the occasion. Whether you plan to go on a visit, study, or work and reside there permanently, you will have to apply for a different Georgian visa accordingly. Depending on the purpose of traveling, you may be granted a visa with the right to stay for a short-term period, long-term period, or with the right to transiting the territory of Georgia. The authorized body for issuing, extending, and terminating Georgian visas is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia/Embassy of Georgia.

Short-term visas may be issued according to the number of days indicated in a visa application but not more than 30 calendar days. And only if you have visited Georgia at least once during the previous year, and there are grounds for requesting a short-term visa, you may be granted a short-term multiple-entry visa for a maximum of five years. Besides, the total period of an alien’s entry and stay in Georgia in any 180-day period shall not exceed 90 calendar days.

 


 

A – Georgian Diplomatic Visa

Georgian Diplomatic - A Visa has five subcategories:

 

1. A1 Category Visa

     Is issued to:

  • The top officials of foreign legislative and executive authorities, members of top- and high-level delegations, and accompanying family members, arriving in Georgia on state, official, business, friendly or unofficial visits.

2. A2 Category Visa

     Is issued to:

  • Employees of diplomatic and equivalent missions accredited to Georgia
  • Consular officials and their family members
  • To employees of representation offices of international organizations located in Georgia who have been granted diplomatic status by Georgia, and to their family members.

3. A3 Category Visa

     Is issued to:

  • Diplomatic couriers and individuals arriving in Georgia on a special diplomatic mission.

4. A4 Category Visa

     Is issued to: 

  • Honorary consuls of Georgia and their family members if they are citizens of a foreign country.

5. A5 Category Visa

     Is issued to: 

  • Individuals holding a business/official or ordinary passport and entering Georgia on various missions in the national interests of Georgia, including persons having diplomatic passports coming to Georgia for working visits

  • Members of foreign delegations, persons having service passports coming to Georgia for working visit, their accompanying family members, and other accompanying persons.

2. B2 Category Visa

     Is issued to: 

  • Administrative, technical, and service personnel of foreign diplomatic missions, consular employees and service staff of consular offices, their family members, and household workers
  • Employees of international and humanitarian organizations located in Georgia and their family members as well as domestic workers accompanying the persons having A2 diplomatic visa.

3. B3 Category Visa

     Is issued to:

  • Persons arriving in Georgia under international bilateral and multilateral treaties of Georgia, members of peacekeeping forces, and other military contingents deployed in Georgia under an international treaty and their family members.

4. B4 Category Visa

     Is issued to:

  • Persons arriving in Georgia as members of different missions, which are in the national interests of Georgia.

C – Georgian Ordinary Visa

Georgia Ordinary - C Visa has four subcategories:

 

1. C1 Category Visa

     Is issued to:

  • Persons arriving in Georgia for tourism purposes.

2. C2 Category Visa

     Is issued to:

  • Persons coming to Georgia to visit relatives and friends and to freelancers.

3. C3 Category Visa

     Is issued to:

  • Persons arriving in Georgia to hold business meetings and negotiations, participants of scientific workshops, conferences, and other research, pedagogical, cultural, or sports events
  • Persons arriving in Georgia to perform the journalistic activity
  • Crew members of the ships standing in Georgian harbors, unless the visa-free movement of the crew members is provided by an international treaty
  • The drivers and co-drivers performing international cargo / civil transportation.

4. C4 Category Visa

     Is issued to:

  • Persons arriving in Georgia to receive or provide humanitarian assistance during life-threatening situations and situations hazardous to life and health, to carry out charity activities
  • A guardian or caregiver of a Georgian citizen, persons under guardianship or care of a Georgian citizen
  • Persons arriving in Georgia for treatment
  • Persons visiting graves of relatives and friend
  • Persons arriving with the purpose of pilgrimage.

 

Required Documents for Georgian Ordinary Visa

 

1. Application Form

5. Proof of Accommodation

       In case of business:

  • A document confirming the business (commercial, professional) relationship between an alien/his/her employer and a natural person in Georgia or a legal person registered in Georgia. If there is a business relationship between an alien’s employer and a natural person in Georgia or a legal person registered in Georgia, a document confirming an employment relationship between the alien and his/her employer shall also be presented.
  • An extract from the Public Registry, which confirms that the alien is the founder/co-founder of an entrepreneurial (commercial) legal entity registered in Georgia or is authorized to be in charge of/represent such entity.

6. In Case a Visa Applicant Obtains a Visa as an Alien’ Family Member

  • A document confirming that the alien is a family member (a birth certificate, a marriage certificate, etc.)

7. A Document Confirming That a Person Staying in Georgia, or a Person who has Applied For a D1, D2, or D3 Visa, or who has Obtained a Visa of the Said Category, is a Family Member of the Alien Applying for a D4 Visa Category

  • A marriage certificate, children’s birth certificate, the alien’s birth certificate, etc.

8. A Document Confirming That a Family Member of the Alien is Legally Staying in Georgia (the Legal Stay does not Include the Stay of the Alien’s Family Member in Georgia on the Basis of a Visa, Except for the D1, D2 Or D3 Visa)

  • Representatives and consultants of companies coming to Georgia to perform their official duties
  • Foreigners coming to Georgia for contracted work
  • Persons coming to Georgia for carrying out entrepreneurial activity according to the Law of Georgia on entrepreneurial activity.

2. D2 Category Visa

      Is issued to:

  • Persons coming to Georgia to carry out scientific, sports, cultural, or educational activity
  • Freelancers
  • Foreigners coming to Georgia as interns or volunteers
  • Press workers coming to Georgia to carry out their professional activity.

3. D3 Category Visa

     Is issued to:

  • Persons coming for study or do research at an authorized educational institution
  • Persons coming to Georgia as part of an international educational program.

4. D4 Category Visa

      Is issued to: 

  • Persons who come to Georgia for family reunification.

5. D5 Category Visa

     Is issued to:

  • The person, who under the procedure established by the legislation of Georgia, has the right of ownership of real property within the territory of Georgia (other than agricultural land) with its market value exceeding USD 100 000 equivalent in GEL, and their family members.

  • A document confirming the business (commercial, professional) relationship between an alien/his/her employer and a natural person in Georgia or a legal person registered in Georgia.
  • A document, which confirms that the person plans to conduct business in Georgia.
  • An extract from the Public Registry confirms that the alien is the founder/co-founder of an entrepreneurial legal entity registered in Georgia or is authorized to be in charge of/represent such entity.
  • The relevant employment contract must contain information about the employment duration with the alien and the amount of labor remuneration (if applicable).

5. Purpose of Travel for D2 Visa Shall be Confirmed by One of the Following Documents:

  • A document confirming the participation in an international program indicated in the information provided by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia
  • A document issued by a professional organization or an employer which confirms that the person conducts the journalistic activity in a foreign country or that the person accompanying him/her is participating/assisting in the journalistic activity
  • A document confirming that the purpose of travel is journalistic activity or assistance in such an activity.
  • A document confirming that the person is a representative of a liberal profession (a certificate, a certificate issued by a professional association, etc.)
  • An Invitation

6. Purpose of Travel for D3 Visa Shall be Confirmed by One of the Following Documents:

  • The Order issued by the Ministry of Education, Science, Cultural & Sports of Georgia allowing the student to Study in Georgia
  • The Order confirming the admission to an authorized educational institution of Georgia issued by a Rector/Dean
  • A document confirming the participation in an international program indicated in the information provided by the Ministry of Education, Science, Cultural & Sports of Georgia
  • IELTS/TOEFL positive result copy (Not obligatory)
  • NEET (NOC) or sign statement.

All educational documents must be apostilled from MEA

When studying in a foreign language education program, a document confirming the existence of the foreign language education program in the authorized educational institution in which the alien has been enrolled.

7. Purpose of Travel for D4 Visa shall be Confirmed by One of the Following Documents:  

  • A document confirming that a person staying in Georgia, or a person who has applied for an immigration visa, or who has obtained a visa of the said category, is a family member of the alien applying for a visa (a marriage certificate, children’s birth certificate, the alien’s birth certificate, etc.)
  • A document confirming that a family member of the alien is legally staying in Georgia (the legal stay does not include the stay of the alien’s family member in Georgia based on a visa, except for an immigration visa)

8. Purpose of Travel for D5 Visa Shall be Confirmed by One of the Following Documents:

  • In the territory of Georgia:
    • A document certifying title to real property (except for agricultural land) located in Georgia,
    • The value of which exceeds USD 35 000 equivalent in GEL – an extract from the Public Register
    • And a document issued by a certified assessor of the body accredited by the Legal Entity under Public Law – the Unified National Body of Accreditation of Georgia - Accreditation Centre confirms the market value of the real property.

9. A Document Issued by a Company/Person Registered/Residing in Georgia, Which Confirms that the Legal Person Provides Accommodation to the Alien. The Document must Indicate the Address of the Alien’s Accommodation

  • A rental agreement for accommodation.
  • A document confirming the booking of accommodation (hotel reservation)

10. A Document Issued by a Company/Person Registered/Residing In Georgia, Which Confirms that the Company/Person Provides Accommodation to the Alien. The Document must be Notarized and must Indicate the Place and Period of the Alien’s Accommodation

  • A document confirming that the alien will cover from own funds the expenses necessary for travel to and stay
  • Parents or legal guardians must provide their personal bank statements for the last 3 months along with a Notarized Sponsorship letter. (only in the case of the D3 category)
  • A document confirming receipt of a grant/study financing 
  • A document confirming the existence of scholarship (only in the case of D3 category)
  • A Notarized rental agreement for accommodation or Document confirming proof of ownership of the invitee. (only in the case of the D4 category)

11. Proof of Financial Funds During the Travel to and Stay in Georgia:

  • In the invitation, confirming that it will provide the alien with the funds sufficient for travel to and stay in Georgia
  • A document confirming that the alien will cover from own funds the expenses necessary for travel to and stay
  • A statement of the alien’s bank account for the last three months
  • An employment verification letter indicating the amount of salary
  • A sponsor’s letter

Georgia’s electronic e-Visa portal started on the 10th of February 2015. This system allows foreigners to come to Georgia as tourists or for business to obtain an e-Visa without having to apply to Georgia’s consular offices abroad.

People Applying for an E-Visa must Go through 3 Stages:

At the end of the first stage, i.e. when the e-Visa application has been registered, an email explaining the terms which apply to entering Georgia and containing a link for online payment will be sent to the address which the applicant provided.

After paying for the e-Visa online, and if the application is successful, the e-Visa will be sent to the applicant’s email address. It must be printed out and presented along with other valid traveling documents when entering Georgia.

Depending on the applicant’s nationality, there may be different requirements in terms of travel documents, and the duration of the e-Visa’s validity may vary.
