Montenegro Visa Policy

There are the Following Types of Montenegro Visa:

• Montenegro Airport Transit (A) Visa
• Montenegro Transit (B) Visa
• Montenegro Short-stay (C) Visa
• Montenegro Long-stay (D) Visa 

Montenegro Short-stay visa (C) may be issued for one, two, or multiple entries into Montenegro for tourist, business, personal or other purposes. Continuous stay or the total duration of consecutive visits may not exceed 90 days in a period of 6 months, counting from the date of first entry. The validity period of Visa C for multiple entries is up to one year. Exceptionally this type of visa may be issued for a more extended period of validity, but no longer than five years. A short-stay visa may be given to a group of foreigners (collective visa). The validity period of a collective visa cannot exceed 30 days, and it may be affixed to a group passport.

Required Documents for Montenegro Short-stay Visa

1. Application Form

• Filled out, printed, and personally signed in two places by the applicant (or by the parent(s)/guardian(s) for minors)

2. Passport

• Valid for at least three months beyond intended stay in Montenegro
• Issued within the last 10 years
• Must contain at least 2 blank pages

3. Copy of Passport

• Copy of all used pages of current passport
• If applicable, of previous passports (personal information pages, pages with visas or stamps, etc.)
• If applicable, copies of previously obtained visas for Schengen countries, United Kingdom, Ireland, Japan, Australia, the United States, and Canada

4. Photo

• One (1) recent photograph
• 34x45 in color
• Preferably biometric and with white background
• With neutral facial expression, with his/her eyes open and mouth closed.
• The photograph of a person, who, for religious or medical reasons, is wearing a headcover, must show the person's cheeks, chin, and forehead.

5. National Identity Card and Resident Permit/Visa Copy (if your country of residence and citizenship are different)

• If you are a non-citizen in the country you apply, you must submit a residence permit card, and this card must be valid 3 months after the date of leaving Montenegro

6. Travel Health Insurance

• Must cover the possible expenses related to repatriation, for health reasons, urgent medical assistance, and/or urgent hospitalization, with the minimum coverage of 30.000 EUR
• It needs to be valid in Montenegro for the entire stay

7. Proof of Ensured Accommodation

• Receipt from a tourist arrangement, hotel, or another type of accommodation reservation that has been paid in

8. Flight Reservation or Proof of Intended Transport

• Reservation for return flight or supporting documents for other means of travel with itinerary (vehicle registration, driving license, car insurance/green card, bus ticket, etc.)

9. Proof of Means of Subsistence

• Proof of possession of means for sustenance during his stay in Montenegro, as well as for return into the country where he comes from or for travel into a third state (cash, a bank account, traveler’s checks, credit cards, etc.)

10. Proof of Professional Status

• Evidence of employment

11. Proof of Purpose of Stay

• Letter of guarantee by a physical person or letter of invitation by a legal entity, state authority in Montenegro, or organizer of an international conference or event

You will apply for a Montenegro Short-stay visa in Montenegro visa application centers, embassies, or consulates, whichever accepts visa applications in your country of residence. If there is none of them in your country, you need to apply to the nearest embassy or consulate to your location.

Montenegro Long-stay Visa (D) may be issued to a foreigner for one, two, or multiple entries into Montenegro, intending to stay in the territory of Montenegro over 90 days, but no longer than six months in one year, counting from the date of first entry. This type of visa may be granted to a foreigner:

• Intending to stay in Montenegro to perform business or other activities, provide expert advisory activities as agreed by the Agreement on business and technical cooperation, on long-term production cooperation, and transfer technologies and foreign investments
• Coming to serve to Montenegro as a member of the foreign diplomatic and consular representative office to Montenegro or an international organization accredited to Montenegro, member of economic and cultural representative office, as well as to the members of his family, i.e., members of his household holding diplomatic or official passports

In some instances, permission for temporary residence in Montenegro may be considered a long-stay visa, which may be, according to Article 35 of the Law on Foreigners, granted to a foreigner intending to stay longer than 90 days in Montenegro, for:

• Employment and Work, Performing Economic or Business Activity
• Seasonal Work
• Secondary Education and Studies
• Participation in Student Exchange Programs or Other Youth Programs
• Specialization or Professional Training and Acquisition of Practical Skills
• Scientific Research Work
• Medical Treatment
• Family Reunification
• Humanitarian Reasons
• Other Justified Reasons Specified by Law or International Agreement

Montenegro Transit visa (B) may be issued for one, two, or exceptionally several transits through the territory of Montenegro, with a validity period of up to 6 months. Based on a transit visa, a foreigner may stay in Montenegro for up to 5 days upon each journey. A Transit visa may be issued to a foreigner if he/she has secured entry into the state to which he/she is traveling. This visa may be individual and collective.

  • As well as financial supporting documents such as a detailed bank statement, payslips, rent contracts, ownership of vehicle(s), etc., showing how the applicant intends to finance his/her trip and support himself/herself for the duration of the visit

Montenegro Airport Transit visa (A) may be issued to a foreigner for one or several transits through the airport international transit area, between internationals flights, without entering into the territory of Montenegro, with a validity period of up to 3 months. As a general rule, a foreigner who shall not leave the international transit area between flights at a Montenegro airport or on international flights shall not require a visa. The Government of Montenegro may stipulate that nationals of certain countries, for national security and legal order reasons, shall require an Airport Transit visa.
