Mongolia Visa Policy

Foreigners wishing to enter Mongolia must receive visas of the sort suitable to the intention of their visit. Nationals of those countries who have signed visa exemption agreements with Mongolia shall not be necessary to acquire a visa if the visit's length does not extend the time permitted under those arrangements. If your intended stay in Mongolia exceeds the period allowed under the visa exemption scheme, you must apply for an appropriate type of visa before you travel to Mongolia.

There are 4 Types of Mongolia Visas:

1. Short-stay Visa

Mongolia Short-term Visa

The visa is a permit issued by the Mongolian Immigration Agency or by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs authorizing visas for foreign nationals by the Mongolian Representative Office or border point. If you intend to visit Mongolia for tourism, business, study, or other activities for a period shorter than 30 days, depending on your nationality, you might be required to obtain a Mongolia Tourist visa first. The Mongolia Tourist visa allows you to stay in Mongolia for up to 30 days within 90 days. It may be extended further 30 days if you apply to the Immigration Agency of Mongolia for an extension not fewer than 4 days before the expiry of your visa term.

Mongolia Tourist Visa

Mongolia Tourist visa can be issued to a foreigner who has no residence or occupation in Mongolia and whose primary aim of visiting Mongolia is leisure, sightseeing, casual visits to relatives, etc.

• The photo should be of passport format, a recent whole-face capture with a light background.
• It must be in the size of 3.5 x 4.5 colored, and the head should take 70-80% of the photo.

3. Passport and Copy of the Main Page

• Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the return date.
• It also must have at least two blank pages.

• If your country of residence and citizenship are different

6. Proof of Accommodation

• Valid (existing) hotel/accommodation booking/reservation with the full address (name, street, city, zip code, contact information, booking ref.)
• In case of staying at a private house, submit a copy of the house owner’s resident card (both front and backside) and fill out the address on the application form

7. Flight Itinerary

• A copy of flight/train tickets

8. Means of Subsistence

• Proof of sufficient financial means for the period of stay, such as bank statements

Mongolia Business Visa

Mongolia Business Visa allows its holder to engage in business-related activities such as attending meetings or conferences, conducting or attending the training, conducting internal audits, installing equipment, or performing other temporary services for a client, local affiliate, or branch office.

8. Letter from Local Employer/Sponsor (Proof of Occupation)

• The letter must include:
  • Name, postal address, and telephone number of sponsor/company
  • Details regarding the applicant’s working position, starting date of the employment, and salary
  • The timeframe of work leave (expected date to resume duties) and purpose of travel
• Valid trade license copy and company ownership documents (if a person is an owner of the company).
• Letter from University (if student)
• Copy of sponsor’s valid passport and residence visa (if any) to be attached to letter from sponsor (if an applicant is a dependent)

9. Copy of Registration Certificate

• If the entity has not applied before

10. Proof of Accommodation

• Accommodation (if not indicated in the invitation or contract) - Confirmed accommodation (hotel, hostel, apartment) reservation mentioning applicant’s name, dates, and accommodation address details.

11. Means of Subsistence

• Proof of sufficient financial means for the period of stay, such as bank statements

Who can apply for Mongolia Official Visa:  

• Foreign nationals who are official passport holders visiting and residing for official purposes,
• Ordinary passport holders visiting the official business of international organizations and their family members
• Holding official and ordinary passports and intending to visit Mongolia at the invitation of the State, central administrative and local self-government bodies of Mongolia, or a political party with seats in the State of Ih Hural (Parliament of Mongolia)
• Nationals who hold official and ordinary passports and intend to work in Mongolia under the Inter-Governmental Agreement and the Treaties
• The employee of the foreign or international press holding official and ordinary passports

Mongolia Long-term Visa

If you intend to visit Mongolia for employment, study, or academic purposes, residing for family purposes, and other purposes, you must get a visa permit. After applying for a visa permit, you must submit your documents to register and apply for a residence permit at Mongolia Immigration Agency. Foreign nationals must apply to the Mongolian Immigration Agency for an applicable visa for a residence permit. Visas at the Mongolian border point or the Embassy or Consulate of Mongolia in a foreign country shall be given to the foreign national upon accepting the visa.

Mongolia Family Reunion Visa

This visa is intended to permit foreign nationals to obtain a Long-term visa, allowing them to stay in Mongolia for a longer period. This visa applies to spouses of Mongolia nationals/residents and wishing to obtain a permit for long-term residence in Mongolia.

This visa applies to those who are admitted to secondary school, state college, or state university in Mongolia.

Mongolia Visa on Arrival shall be issued 14 days prior to the entry of a foreign national to Mongolia, provided that he/she is from a country not designated by the Mongolian diplomatic missions or consulates. Visa permission is valid for 90 days from its issuance date.

Mongolia Pre-arranged Visa on Arrival for All Nationals

You can apply for Mongolia Pre-arranged Visa on Arrival in two cases:

• If there is no embassy or consulate of Mongolia in your country
• You visit Mongolia for business, official purposes (not transit and tourist)

In these cases, you should have a sponsor in Mongolia who can submit a visa request on your behalf to the Mongolia Immigration Agency.
