Visa Types & Categories to Apply for Poland
There are three different types of visas to Poland:
- Schengen Visa - Short Stay Visa
- Airport Transit Visa
- National Visa – Long Stay Visa
As Poland belongs to Schengen countries, you should apply for a Poland Schengen visa to make your temporary trip. Reasons to apply for this type of visa can be tourism, visiting family or friends, business trip, medical examination or treatment, short-term education, exchange programs and many other non-permanent nuances.
If you want to study in Poland for more than 90 days (such as bachelor's, master's, doctoral, etc.) or work permanently in an institution located here, you can also apply for a Poland national visa if you have official invitations or letters of acceptance from those educational and business institutions.

The Schengen visa entitles the holder to visits of up to 90 days every 6 months in the entire Schengen area.

If your citizenship country does not have a visa exemption agreement with Poland and you want to come to Poland for a short stay, for a business trip, holiday, family, or friends visit, you will be required to apply for a Schengen visa beforehand. This short-stay visa is valid only for up to 90 days stay within a 180-day period in Poland and all other Schengen area member states. The start date of the 180-day period is the day you enter Poland or another Schengen country.
The main purposes of the visit for Schengen visa are tourism, business, family visit, participating in cultural (scientific, sporting) events, study (up to 90 days), work (up to 90 days).
Poland Tourist Visa
If you intend to visit Poland with the purpose of tourism for a period shorter than 90 days, depending on your nationality, you might be required to obtain a Poland Tourist visa first.
The Poland Tourist visa permits you to stay in Poland and realize your tourist activities for a maximum period of 90 days at most per 180 days.

- Fully completed in English or Polish and signed and dated by the applicant himself (signed by both parents in case of minors below the age of 18)

- Validity minimum of three months beyond the date of your departure from Poland.

9. Proof of Financial Means
- Personal bank statements of the last 6 months before application, personal property, assets, etc.

11. For Minors:
- Copy and Polish or English translation of either birth certificate/proof of adoption/custody decree if parents are divorced/death certificate of parent
- “Letter of consent” from parents, including passport copies of both parents/legal guardian

Poland Tourist Visa Fee
Since 02 February 2020, the fee for Schengen visas has been 80 EUR, to be paid upon submission of the application. Additionally, you may also need to pay other Administrative fees such as the Visa Application center fee, courier service fee, etc., depending on the country and location of your documents' submission.
Reduced Visa Fees for Certain Nationalities
According to the agreement signed between The EU and Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, and Ukraine, visa fee reduced to 35 EUR for the citizens of these countries.
Visa fees are waived by all Schengen states for the following categories of persons, regardless of their nationality:
- Children under six years
- School pupils, undergraduates, postgraduates, and accompanying teaching staff who undertake trips for study or training
- Representatives of non-profit organizations aged 25 years or less participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organized by non-profit organizations

Poland Business/Congress/Trade Fair Visit Visa
A Poland Business visa gives you the authorization to enter Poland and stay here for a maximum period of up to 90 days within six months, as permitted. It permits its holder to engage in business-related activities such as attending meetings or conferences, conducting or attending the training, conducting internal audits, installing equipment, or performing other temporary services for a client, local affiliate, or branch office.

Poland Transit Visa
What is An Airport Transit Visa?
An airport transit visa allows you to change planes at a Polish airport for onward travel to a destination outside the Schengen Area. The visa (also referred to as an 'A' visa) does not allow you to enter Poland or another Schengen country. This means you cannot leave the airport nor the international zone of the airport.
In Poland (A) Transit Visa is not required if you remain in the transit zone of the airport in order to catch an onward or connecting flight within 24 hours of arrival. Transit visas are normally valid for a maximum of 3 days if travelling by air and 10 if travelling by train.
Changing Planes for Onward Travel within the Schengen Area: Short-stay Visa
If you are travelling to another Schengen country via Poland, you will need a short-stay Schengen visa. Airport transit visas are not valid for this purpose.
Changing Planes Two Times within the Schengen Area for Onward Travel Outside Schengen: Short-stay Visa
If you are transiting through two different Schengen airports for onward travel to a country outside Schengen and the first transit airport is in Poland, you need to apply for a short-stay Schengen visa. Airport transit visas are not valid for this purpose.
Regardless of whether or not you need an airport transit visa, it is the airline that decides to allow you onto the flight or not, even if you have the necessary documents for your journey.
You can Apply for an A-Type Visa Only if:
- You are planning to stay only in the airport's transit area and are not planning to leave it. The A-Type visa does not authorize you to stay in the Schengen area.
- You are a citizen of one of the countries below: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sri Lanka.
You do not need to Apply For an A-Type Visa if You:
- Hold a diplomatic passport,
- Are a member of an EU citizen's closest family,
- Hold a C-Type or D-Type visa or a residence permit issued by one of the EU Member States.
- Hold any of the residence permits listed in Annex V of the Community Code on Visas, issued by Andorra, Canada, Japan, San Marino, or the United States of America,
- Hold a valid visa of a European Economic Area country or Canada, Japan, or the United States of America, or you are returning from these countries after using such a visa.
Exemptions
Under certain circumstances, you do not require an airport transit visa. For example, if you:
- Have a visa or residence permit for a country in the Schengen Area, the EU or the EEA
- Have a visa for Canada, Japan, or the United States
- Have a residence permit guaranteeing an unlimited return for Andorra, San Marino, Canada, Japan, and the United States
- Are a family member of a citizen of the EU, EEA, or Poland (you need to be able to prove this)
- Hold a diplomatic passport.
- Hold a service or official passport. Please note: this only applies to nationals of certain countries.
- Are on-duty aircrew and a national of a country that is a member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
As of February 2, 2020, you do not need an airport transit visa if you have a valid visa or a residence permit for Aruba, Curaçao, Sint-Maarten, Bonaire, Sint-Eustatius, or Saba.

Even if your country is exempt from visa requirements, if you intend to stay longer than 90 days you will need to apply for a long-stay visa from your home country before coming to Poland.
The National Visa grants entry to Poland on the basis that you will be applying for a residence permit. It enables you to enter Poland as a potential resident and stay while you apply for residency. You will need to convert your visa into a residence permit within three months of arriving in Poland.
Poland Employment (National) Visa & EU Blue Card
This visa is designed for applicants wishing to take up employment in Poland, as well as for high skilled persons who are candidates for a Blue Card of the European Union.
The EU Blue Card allows third-country nationals with a university degree to take up employment in Poland commensurate with their qualifications. Please note that potential Blue-Card holders need to earn a gross salary of 52.000 € or MINT profession (Mathematics / Informatics / Natural Sciences / Technology) require at least 40.560€ and shall have found a position in their field of study.

- Living expenses covering the planned stay: the required minimum for each month of the planned stay is 701 PLN/person, or 528 PLN/each person in the family (if the applicant will stay in Poland with family members).
- Cost of accommodation (documents must be submitted in a way the consul will be able to estimate the cost of living, e.g., lease agreement, a decision on the provision of a dormitory, etc.).
E.g., Applicant for a 365-day visa must have at least 10912 PLN (701 PLN x 12 months + 2500 PLN) to cover the cost of return and living expenses and additional funds to cover the cost of accommodation. If the monthly payment for a dormitory or renting an apartment is 1000 PLN, then the cost of accommodation will be: 1000 PLN x 12 months = 12000 PLN per year. In total, the applicant needs at least 22912 PLN.

Can I travel within the Schengen countries with a single-entry visa?
Yes. Once you have entered the Schengen territory, a single-entry visa allows the holder to circulate within the Schengen territory multiple times. However, if the holder of this visa leaves the Schengen territory, he/she cannot re-enter again without a new valid visa.
I am from a country whose citizens do not need a visa to enter the Schengen area. Can I experience any problems at the border, while entering Poland?
You must meet certain requirements to enter Poland, even if you are not required a visa:
- The purpose of your trip to Poland must be plausible and comprehensible.
- Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay in Poland.
- You must be able to finance your own living and travel costs.
- You must hold a confirmed return flight, to prove that you are prepared to leave Poland before the visa expires.
- You must have travel health insurance for the whole duration of your stay in Poland.
- You must not pose a threat to security or public order.
How long am I allowed to stay in Poland with a 1, 3, 5 years valid multiple-entry Schengen visa?
This visa gives permission to its holder to enter the Schengen Area (all 26 member States) as many times as they wish, within a period of 1, 3, 5 years. However, even in this case, the visa holder is limited to remaining in the Schengen Area no longer than 90 days within a 180-day period.
How long is my Poland visa valid for?
