You can make a planned trip to Vietnam by obtaining a short-term visa for Vietnam. Foreign nationals can apply for a short-term visa to Vietnam (tourist visa, e- visa) for temporary reasons (tourism, business, cultural, and other short-term purposes). However, if you want to stay in Vietnam for a longer period for any reason (e.g., study, work, etc.), you can also apply for a long-term visa to Vietnam. For more information about visa types, you can check our website.

Do I need a visa to go to Vietnam?

Most visitors would need a visa to enter Vietnam. Visitors in many African countries and some parts of Asia are exempt from Vietnam's visa requirements. Citizens of North America and Europe will need to obtain a visa. You can check your eligibility on our website in the "Services" section.

Vietnam entry requirements

Below are the necessary documents and items required to enter Vietnam:

  • A valid passport that does not expire within six months of your trip
  • An approved visa OR a pre-approval for a visa, which will be picked up at a Vietnam airport

Travelers who arrive in Vietnam without the above items will be denied entry.

How do I get a Vietnam visa?

Entering the country typically requires a Vietnam visa, which can be applied for in person at the Embassy of Vietnam or online. A Vietnam evisa is more convenient, as the application can be made from home or anywhere you can access the online platform. You can also apply for a Vietnam VOA (Visa on Arrival) if traveling for business or pleasure. It is recommended to apply for a VOA when flying to Vietnam.

Additionally, you can apply for various types of visa to Vietnam on our “Services” page. Whether traveling for business or pleasure, our team can help with the process with a 5–8 business days turnaround (depending on the options chosen).

  • Tourist visa
  • Business visa
  • Student visa
  • Working visa

Tourist and business Vietnam visas feature subcategories of multiple and single-entry options. They are also split further into 30 or 90-day entry timeframes.

Vietnam Evisa

A Vietnam evisa is an electronic visa that you can apply for online. This visa requires a fee to be paid, as you would for a standard visa. As a note, if a visa or evisa is rejected, the fee is non-refundable.

You can easily apply for a Vietnam evisa through our “Services” page, with options for a standard evisa, tourist evisa, or business evisa. Additionally, our page offers single-entry and multiple-entry visa options for various timeframes.

Vietnam single entry visa

Selecting a single-entry visa for Vietnam ensures one entry during the approved visa timeframe. This option is excellent for tourists planning a vacation or business travelers attending a single event in Vietnam.

Vietnam multiple entry visa

A multi-entry visa for Vietnam is a visa that allows its holders to enter and leave Vietnam several times during the validity period of their visa. It is also called a "re-entry visa for Vietnam." This type of Vietnamese visa is very convenient for those who want to make several visits to Vietnam within a certain period.

Vietnam visa price

For your visa approval letter, you pay an online payment of $165 or more, depending on the type of your visa and the number of documents you request. Upon arrival, you will also pay a fee for the visa stamp. Additionally, this will cost $25 for a single-entry visa and $50 for a multiple-entry visa. The stamp fee is payable in cash in Vietnamese dong or U.S. dollars, so be prepared to get the correct fee before you leave for Vietnam.

The standard single entry visa is $27 for Vietnam e-visa.

How long does Vietnam visa take?

Once the appropriate documents have been submitted, the typical processing time for a Vietnam visa is three days. This timeline applies to in-person and online visa application submissions. However, this timeline does not include the shipping time for a visa.

Additionally, an expedited fee can be applied for a quicker turnaround when submitting a Vietnam visa application.

Can I get a Vietnam visa at the airport?

Yes, a VOA is available at the airport. However, an application must be submitted online beforehand. This method will take approximately one hour to two business days for the visa to be approved. An Approval Letter will be sent to your email once your application is received and accepted. This Approval Letter is also automatically sent to the Vietnam Immigration checkpoints at the three major international airports in Vietnam:  Hanoi, Da Nang, or Ho Chi Minh City.

Upon arrival, the Immigration officers will already have your visa documents available. Then, it's a quick process to receive your Vietnam visa at the airport. Travelers visiting the country through other methods of transport must submit an application through the Vietnam Embassy instead of online.

How long is a Vietnam passport valid?

The passport validity length varies based on the option chosen. Business and leisure travelers can stay in Vietnam for 30 or 90-days or one year (US citizens). When selecting a tourist visa, the length of the stay can be extended before the visa expires.

How to extend a tourist visa

Those wishing to extend a tourist visa can do so in person at one of the Immigration Management Department locations. These government buildings are typically located in most cities and provinces, especially areas with larger populations of tourists or foreigners.

You can extend a tourist visa for up to three months while staying in Vietnam. Business visas can also be extended, with the maximum length set at one year. Both visa types can be extended on a month-to-month basis or for longer periods.

Vietnam Visa for US Citizen

Anyone in the US planning to visit Vietnam will require a visa, regardless of the reason for traveling. Those visiting Vietnam from the US can obtain the following visas:

  • One month single or multiple entry
  • Three months single or multiple entry
  • 1-year multiple entry visa (only valid for US travelers)

These types of visas apply to leisure or business travelers. Additionally, US leisure travelers who plan to use the 1-year multiple entry visa must leave Vietnam every 90 days. Those traveling with a business Vietnam visa for US citizen must leave the country every six months.
