Spain Visa Types

There are three main Spain visa types

1. Schengen Visa - Short Stay

2. Transit Visa 

3. National Visa - Long Stay 

Spain Schengen Visa

Spain is one of the Schengen countries. That is why you need to apply for a Spain Schengen visa to realize your short-term trip (less than 90 days). If you would like to realize short-term work activities or educational training, for which it is required to stay in Spain for less than 90 days, you need to apply for Spain student visa/Spain work visa. The condition is to have an official letter from the inviting institution. Otherwise, you need to apply for a Spain Tourist Visa to realize your tourist activity. The other reasons for applying for a Schengen visa include visiting relatives and friends, medical treatment, and other non-permanent reasons. 

Schengen visas can be single-entry, double-entry, and multiple-entries. The validity of a Schengen visa is the travel period mentioned in the Spanish application form. 

Spain National Visa

Applicants who would like to stay in Spain for more than 90 days need to apply for a National visa. A national visa of Spain allows to enter the country with the condition that the applicant will apply for a residence permit during the first three months of arrival to Spain. The purposes to apply for a Spanish national visa can be long-term work/education, family reunion or Au Pair program.

Documents required for Spain Visa

Requirements for Spain visa depend on the purpose of the visit. 

However, there are documents which are needed to be shown regardless of the visa type: 

  • Application Form 
  • Passport 
  • Proof of financial means
  • Photos 
  • Proof of occupation

Spain visa fees

Spain Schengen visa fee is 80 EUR, but you may also need to pay other administrative fees, such as visa application center fees, courier service fees, etc., depending on the country and location where you submit your documents. According to the agreements between the European Union and Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, and Ukraine, visa fees for citizens of these countries are reduced to 35 EUR.

Spain National visa fee starts from 80 EUR. National (long-term) visa fees may vary depending on your nationality or country of submission. 

How long does it take to get Spain visa?

Usually, the processing time for a Schengen Spain visa is 3-20 calendar days, and for a long-term visa - 10-60 calendar days. Please note that it may change depending on your nationality and country of application. 

Do you need a Visa to Spain?

Spain is part of the EU and Schengen zone. All EU and Schengen area citizens can travel, work and live in Spain without any other conditions. All other nationalities need to check their eligibility based on their nationalities. Depending on the purpose of your visit, you may need a visa to visit Spain.
