You can carry out your planned trip to Malaysia by obtaining a Malaysia visa. Foreign nationals may apply for short-term visas to Malaysia (Tourist Visa, E-visa) for temporary reasons (tourism, business, cultural, and other short-term purposes). If you'd like to stay for a longer period in Malaysia for any reason (e.g., study, work, etc.), you may also apply for a long-term visa to Malaysia.

Malaysia E-visa

Malaysia e-visa is an online method of obtaining a visa to travel to Malaysia.
After completing the online application form and paying the processing fee, you will receive your e visa by email within three working days, depending on your chosen visa processing status.

Malaysia tourist visa

Malaysia has very specific requirements for who they allow entering the country and for how long. Some foreign nationals can visit Malaysia for short periods without a visa, while others must apply for a tourist visa to Malaysia before they can travel there.
Also, a tourist visa to Malaysia is not all the permission you need to visit the country. You will also need a pass for short-term social visits, which the immigration officer will issue to you at the point of entry to Malaysia.

Malaysia work visa

Foreign nationals wishing to work in Malaysia will be required to obtain a Malaysian work visa. The term 'work visa' covers the whole process of obtaining a work permit in Malaysia.

As a foreign national, before you work in Malaysia, you must first find a Malaysian company willing to hire you. Then your employer has to apply for a work permit in Malaysia on your behalf.

If the competent authorities in charge of issuing work permits to foreign employees approve the application, only then you can start working in Malaysia.

In addition, there are different types of Malaysian work permits depending on the profession and duration of employment.

Malaysia visa requirements

Citizens of certain countries have to apply for a visa before travelling to Malaysia. If you are from a country whose nationals require a Malaysia visa, you must meet the Malaysia visa requirements.
Depending on the location of your country, the visa requirements for Malaysia also change.
However, there are documents that need to be presented regardless of the type of visa:

  • Application form
  •  Passport
  • Two Photographs
  • Identity card
  • Copy of residence permit/visa (if your country of residence and nationality are different)
  • Travel itinerary

Do I need a visa for Malaysia?

If you are from a country which is not exempt from a visa to Malaysia, you have to get a visa before you are allowed to travel there.

However, a few countries can stay in Malaysia for a certain period without needing a visa. But for a period longer than the permitted visa-free period, you will have to apply for a visa.

Please check our website under the 'Services' section for more information.

How to extend single entry visa in Malaysia?

No, it's not possible to extend a Malaysia single entry visa. With a single entry visa you can enter Malaysia once for a total stay of 30 consecutive days. If the visa holder remains in Malaysia longer than the permitted 30 days, they may be fined and given a temporary travel ban by the Malaysian authorities.
If the holder of a single entry visa wishes to return to Malaysia after the expiry date, they must leave and submit a new visa application to be able to re-enter the country.
