Portugal Visa Types

Portugal has three visa types. For temporary reasons, you need to apply for Schengen Visa. It also has a Transit visa for travelers who want to pass through Portugal in order to get to the final destination. For visitors, who intend to stay in Portugal for more than 90 days, there is Portugal National Visa.

 

Portugal E Visa

At the moment, Portugal E Visa is not available for short-term visas. However, due to pandemics, this system accepts online Portugal visa applications for long-term purposes. For that, you need to create your account and upload all your documents there. 
 

Portugal Schengen Visa

Portugal is one of the Schengen countries, that is why in order to go there, you need to apply for a Schengen Visa. There are different types of Portugal Schengen Visa, such as Portugal tourist visa, Portugal business visa, Portugal student visa, etc. Regardless of the purpose of visit, duration of stay, Schengen Visa holders can be in the Schengen area up to 90 days every 6 months. The start date of your visa counts from the date you entered the country. 

Portugal Schengen Visa can be single-entry, double-entry, and multiple-entry. Usually, the validity of a Schengen visa depends on the period of travel mentioned in the application form.  

 

Portugal National Visa

If you intend to study in Portugal for a long period, you need to apply for a Portugal student visa, or if you want to work there permanently, you need to apply for a Portugal work visa. There are also long-term visas for family reunions, self-employment, and Au Pair. Regardless of type, the validity of your visa can be between 90 days and one year. Portugal National Visa gives you the opportunity to enter Portugal and, during the first 3 months of arriving, apply for a resident permit.  

Portugal Resident Permit grants freedom of movement on the Schengen Zone, with the condition of stay no more than 90 days during 6 months.  If you would like to extend your stay in Portugal, you need to submit your application online. The application form should be delivered personally accompanied by required documents. 

 

Portugal visa fees

Portugal Schengen visa fee is 80 EUR, but you may also have to pay other administrative fees, such as visa application centre fees, courier service fees, etc., depending on the location where you submit your documents. According to the agreements between the EU, Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, and Ukraine, visa fees for citizens of these countries are reduced to 35 EUR. Portugal National visa fee is 75-100 EUR. It varies depending on your nationality and type of long-term visa.
