There are three main types of Italy visas:
Italy is one of the Schengen countries. It means you must apply for an Italy Schengen visa to realize your short-term trip (less than 90 days). The reasons for applying for a Schengen visa can be tourism, visiting relatives and friends, business travel, medical examination or treatment, short-term education, exchange programs, and many other non-permanent nuances.
Depending on the type and frequency of travel to Italy, the Schengen visa can be single-entry, double-entry, and multiple-entry. The validity period of a single-entry Schengen visa generally covers the travel period specified on the Italian application form. Holders of multiple-entry Schengen visas can stay in the Schengen area for a maximum of 90 days every 180 days.
Those planning to stay in Italy for more than 90 days must apply for a long-term National visa in advance. Regardless of the length of your planned stay, the duration of your long-term visa should be between three months and one year. If you want to extend your stay beyond the validity period of your visa, you must apply for a residence permit at the corresponding administrative department in Italy.
During its validity period, a long-term visa is equivalent to a Schengen visa, allowing you to move and stay in the Schengen area outside Italy for no more than 90 days at any time for 180 consecutive days. Under the same conditions, it is the same as if you hold a Schengen visa.
You can apply for an Italy National visa for reasons like long-term employment, study, family reunion, etc.
Italy Schengen visa fee is 80 EUR, but you may also need to pay other administrative fees, such as visa application center fees, courier service fees, etc., depending on the country and location where you submit your documents.
According to the agreements signed between the European Union and Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, and Ukraine, visa fees for citizens of these countries are reduced to 35 EUR.
Italy National visa fee is 115 EUR except for the study visa, which costs only 50 EUR per applicant. National (long-term) visa fees may vary depending on your nationality or country of submission.
