Visa Types

Visa Types & Categories to Apply for Singapore

You can realize your planned trip to Singapore by obtaining a Singapore visa. Foreign nationals can apply to Singapore short-term visas (Tourist visa, E-visa) for temporary reasons (tourism, business, cultural, and other short-term purposes). If you want to stay in Singapore for a longer period for some reason (such as study, employment, etc.), you can also apply for Singapore long-term visas.

A Singapore visa permits the holder to access a Singaporean entry point, where the officers of the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) can check them. The ICA decides if the tourist satisfies the country's entry requirements.

You have to apply for a Singapore visa at least 30 days before you arrive in Singapore.

But be aware that it doesn't mean that you will be permitted to enter Singapore just because you have a Singapore visa. The Singapore visa is only a pre-entry permit.

Countries whose citizens need a visa to Singapore have been divided into two groups. The Assessment Level I Countries and Assessment Level II Countries. The level at which your country is based decides part of the application process as well as the processing period for the visa.

You can not submit a Singapore visa application yourself, even if you fill out your own visa application form and collect your documents. To apply for your Singapore visa application, you need to find an approved visa agent, strategic partner, or local contact in Singapore.

Travel companies that the Singaporean government has approved to submit visa applications are approved visa agents and strategic partners. Through SAVE, they will submit a request on your behalf. Apply for a Singapore visa online by clicking here.

Singapore E-visa

Singapore E-visa is an online way to obtain a visa to realize a trip to Singapore.

After completion of the online application form and payment of the processing fee, you will receive your E-visa by email within 3 working days, depending on the visa processing status you have chosen.

Singapore Transit Visa

Whether or not a foreign citizen needs to meet the Transit visa requirements for Singapore depends on a few different factors.

Singapore doesn’t do any Transit visas, if you need a visa, it has to be a standard visitor visa arranged in advance.

The information on this page is a guide for visitors who may qualify for the 96-hour visa-free transit facility (VFTF). This may be available to nationals of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Georgia, India, the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Turkmenistan, and Ukraine.

Transit travellers who satisfy the criteria for VFTF will have to meet the prevailing entry requirements before they are allowed entry into Singapore. Assessment for entry is determined by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers at the point of entry.

Extension of stay for transit travelers under VFTF is strictly not allowed.

Nationals of India and the PRC

If you are in transit to or from any third country via Singapore, you may be eligible for the 96-hour VFTF if you meet these requirements:

  • You may enter Singapore by any mode of transport but depart only via air or sea. You must have a valid onward air/ferry/cruise ticket departing Singapore within 96 hours; and
  • You must have a valid visa*/long-term pass (with a validity of at least 1 month from the date of entry into Singapore under the VFTF) issued by any of the following countries:
    • Australia
    • Canada
    • Germany^
    • Japan
    • New Zealand
    • Switzerland^
    • United Kingdom
    • United States of America

* A visa is considered valid so long as it is good for entry into one of the eight countries listed above. Travelers with Single Journey Visas (SJV) may still be granted VFTF on the return leg of their journey (i.e. after the SJV is used and no longer valid), but you must:

  • Travel directly from the country that issued the SJV, en route through Singapore, back to your home country
  • Not have returned to your home country since you last used the SJV.

^ Applies to visas issued by Germany or Switzerland or Schengen visas that are good for entry to Germany or Switzerland.

Nationals of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Georgia, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine

If you are in transit to or from any third country, you may be eligible for the 96-hour VFTF if you have a valid onward air ticket departing within 96 hours. You may enter Singapore by any mode of transport but must depart Singapore by air.

Singapore Long-term Visa

Singapore Long-term Visa

Even if your country is exempt from visa requirements, if you intend to stay longer in Singapore, you will need to apply for a long-stay visa from your home country before coming to Singapore.

In some countries, Singapore official embassies and consulates don’t process long-term visas, instead visa applicants apply for short-term tourist visas for travelling to Singapore, and they only apply for residence permit when they have already arrived in Singapore. This procedure can vary depending on your country of residence, nationality, and the policy of the embassy you apply for a visa.

The Singapore Long-term Visa is given to foreigners who wish to live in Singapore for a longer period of time or to have temporary or permanent residence established.

The long-term visa grants entry to Singapore on the basis that you will be applying for a residence permit. It enables you to enter Singapore as a potential resident and stay while you apply for residency.
