Visa Types & Categories to Apply for Cayman Islands
There are different types of visas available for the Cayman Islands. You will be required a visa even if you are transiting through the Cayman Islands unless you are from a visa-exempt group.
You can realize your planned trip to the Cayman Islands by obtaining a Cayman Islands visa. Foreign nationals can apply to Cayman Islands short-term visas via embassy for temporary reasons (tourism, business, cultural, and other short-term purposes). Persons requiring a visa to enter or transit through the Cayman Islands must apply to the nearest British Embassy or Consulate with a Visa Section, exempt Jamaica, and Honduras.
If you are a Jamaican or Honduran national and wish to visit Cayman, you must apply for a visa via the Cayman Islands Visa Office.

Nationals that do not require a visa:
A person who is not a prohibited immigrant* who satisfies the immigration officer that he is:
- Permitted to work in the Cayman Islands or
- A person named in a work permit as a licensee's dependent
- A person who is exempt from the requirement to hold a work permit or
- A person who has permission to reside permanently in the Cayman Islands
- The holder of a valid re-entry authorization
No visa is required when entering the Cayman Islands, even if he is a national of a country that would otherwise be required to have a visa. (In above-mentioned cases)
Exemption
Even if you are a national of one of the countries listed below, you will NOT need a visa to enter the Cayman Islands if you are not a prohibited immigrant** and you can satisfy the immigration officer when you arrive in the Cayman Islands that you are not a prohibited immigrant**.
- If you are resident in the United States of America; and you arrive directly from that country, and you make the valid United States Alien Registration Card upon arrival, and you make a return or round-trip ticket to the United States upon arrival.
- If you are resident in Canada; and you arrive directly from Canada or the United States, and you provide proof on arrival that you are a permanent resident or landed immigrant of Canada, and you make a return or round-trip ticket to Canada or the United States upon arrival.
- If you are a resident of the United Kingdom; and you arrive directly from the United Kingdom, and you provide proof on arrival that you are a permanent resident or landed immigrant of the United Kingdom, and you make a return or round-trip ticket to the United Kingdom upon arrival.
- Nationals of Jamaica, India, and China (People's Republic of) which:
- Have a valid visa from the United States of America, Canada, or the United Kingdom and,
- Arrivals in the Cayman Islands directly from the country for which the visa was issued
- Nationals of Jamaica who are 14 years of age or younger, 71 years of age or older
Note: Please note that the persons taking advantage of the visa waiver referred to above may only be allowed to enter and stay in the Islands for a period not exceeding thirty days.
*Prohibited immigrants are fully defined in the Immigration Act, but include destitute persons, mentally ill persons, health hazards to the community, anyone reasonably believed to be a prostitute or to be a prostitute, anyone previously deported, anyone convicted in any country of an offense for which a prison sentence of twelve months or more has been imposed, and others.
Immigrants banned from Cayman include:
- Declared destitute, mentally disturbed, or previously deported.
- Creating health hazards for the community.
- Those reasonably believed to be prostitutes or to be prostitutes,
- Those who have been sentenced to 12+ months in prison in another country.
- Declared to be undesirable for economic or moral reasons.

I am from a country whose citizens do not need a visa to enter the Cayman Islands. Can I experience any problems at the border, while entering the Cayman Islands?
You must meet certain requirements to enter the Cayman Islands, even if you are not required a visa:
- The purpose of your trip to the Cayman Islands must be plausible and comprehensible.
- Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay in the Cayman Islands.
- You must be able to finance your own living and travel costs.
- You must hold a confirmed return flight to prove that you are prepared to leave the Cayman Islands before the duration of the permitted stay ends.
- You must not pose a threat to security or public order.
Will my fees be refunded if my visa is refused?
All fees are non-refundable and will not be refunded if your visa application is not successful.
Do I have to participate in the Embassy in person for applying for Cayman Islands visa?
It depends on your country of residence or the embassy/consulate/Visa Administrative Center’s rules and obligations. In some countries, sending your documents via courier is enough to the embassy/consulate/Visa Administrative Center.
Can the Embassy/Consulate request me to provide additional documents or information?
The embassy may request you to provide additional documents or information, according to your personal situation, even after you have submitted all the required documents mentioned on the official website of the Embassy/Consulate/Visa Application Center.
After my visitor visa has been approved, how long do I have before I have to get it endorsed in my passport?
Three months from the date of approval.
Can I travel to the Cayman Islands with a UK visa?
